Y Yin?

Have you ever wondered what the heck is "Yin Yoga"? And is there really a good reason to lie or sit on the floor in gentle, long held stretchy poses? If you aren't "working" is there really a point?
The answer is a resounding Yes! Yin is more important now than ever. Come find out the science and magic behind Yin Yoga. Discover the reasons why everyone needs Yin in their life. A 45 minute learning segment about what happens and the really powerful benefits, followed by a 1 hour and 45 minute experiential practice.
Tanya believes that Yoga is about calming minds, slowing and deepening breath, and moving with body awareness. The process is about giving your mind, body and breath the space to become a truer expression of yourself. She is delighted by learning and continually seeks opportunities to deepen her personal practice and offer more to her students. Her trainings include an RYT200, 40 hour restorative yoga, advanced asana and various other classes in alignment and therapeutic movement. She believes in practicing in the body you have right now. Her passion for slowing down breath, mind and movement are reflected in her classes which include yin and restorative. Her teaching style is compassionate and caring.
Saturday May 12 1-3:30
$25 early bird until May 7. $30 after May 7.

Kirtan

  • Yoga Home Studio and Ayurveda Centre (map)

Kirtan is a very different kind of music. Based on ancient chants, it has the ability to quiet the mind if listened to with intention. Everyone experiences kirtan differently, and it doesn’t have to be a religious experience. You can think of it as a sing-along. A kirtan concert is not your typical concert either. Everyone sits on the floor, although chairs are usually available. The performers are accessible, in fact there’s not much of a distinction between performers & audience. The wallah (leader) sings the mantra, and the audience sings it back. A single chant can go on for up to forty minutes. As you sing with each other you experience a deep connection with the musicians, the other audience members and yourself. And when the music stops, your mind is quiet.
