Tara Drake E-RYT200, RYT-500, YACEP, Certified Ayurveda Health Counselor, Studio Proprietor
Originally drawn to yoga for physical fitness at a local health club in 2007, I shortly realized a spiritual, physical and mental shift which led me to seek more yoga. In 2010 the practice guided me to attend a YogaFit level 1 weekend certification. In 2013 I attended a “Real Evolution Yoga” weekend workshop in Austin Texas.
My teaching started at Awakened Yoga in the fall of 2012, where I taught for just under a year. This short experience prepared me to move on. I have consistently taught since the opening of BE yoga Studio in the fall of 2014. A few months at BE led me to pursue a 200 hr teacher training at the Himalayan Institute. I felt the importance to grow my personal practice to benefit my students. I attended The Himalayan Yoga Institute for 25 days in the summer of 2015. During that stay, I was initiated into the Himalayan lineage. My training allowed me to take away a container of love to support others with their learning.
In November of 2015, I completed a Calming Kids Elementary online certification which was inspired by teaching my children's class at BE Yoga Studio.
My continuing yoga education and practice is a lifelong commitment. April 2017, I completed my advanced 500 hr Yoga Teacher training through Himalayan Institute, recognized by Yoga Alliance. In addition, I completed their Ayurveda Yoga Specialist certification (June 2016) and graduated their Ayurveda Grad School program (March 2018) with Kathryn Templeton, recognized by NAMA (National Ayurveda Medical Association). These certifications allowed me more specialized resources to provide my clients and students with applicable wellness services. Ayurveda in conjunction with yoga has helped me find my true purpose in life. I opened Yoga Home Studio and Ayurveda Centre on April 1st 2016 to share my passion and shared wisdom.
I teach Chair, Hatha, Gentle and Restorative group classes. I provide workshops and courses in the subjects of Yoga, relaxation, meditation and Ayurveda. My broader teaching experience comes from teaching the Millikin University Golf player athletes. I am the Yoga facilitator for cancer patients at Decatur Illinois’ Cancer Care Institute for a case study called YOCAS. Developed by a physician from the University of Rochester NY, this opportunity has given me experience to work with a broader student base.
I have developed skills to teach to a diverse group regardless of age, size and ability. I provide simple alignment based classes to keep you safe with modifications offered for your capabilities. I have a deep understanding that EveryBODY is not built the same nor can they move the same. Yoga asana, in combination with meditation, pranayama and Ayurveda practices offers a pathway to self-healing and transformation for anyone who puts the work in.
